Inside the (nice) box you’ll find a small bag for the phone, a small phone cleaner, battery, instruction books, charger, head set with remote, USB cable, CD with some software and earplugs. One really good thing with the head set is that you can plug in any 3.5 mm headphone. Everything is black and glossy and looks great. Getting the SIM-card and battery in place is done in a few seconds, and you’re soon ready to start using the phone.
When you boot up the phone you get to hear a small intro theme song (only 1-2 seconds) and a short LG animation. After another second the touchpad gets lit (cool!).
As a phone the LG KG800 Chocolate is really good. You can easily transfer your address book from and to the SIM card, it’s also very straight forward to create groups and add new contacts. Very good - nothing to complain about here. Sound quality is also excellent and all phone book functionality is easy to understand and to use.
Usually when I get a new phone I try to learn the phone by simply start using it. That’s usually no problem but the LG KG800 Chocolate would have benefited from a few more weeks in the usability lab. It’s not really bad - but you actually have to learn how to cancel menus, how to quit the web browser etc. After a couple of days you can navigate through all menus easily - but my point is that you have to learn a few tricks through the manual (or by trial and error) before everything is fluent.
The LG KG800 Chocolate has a built-in 1.3 megapixel camera which is capable of taking pictures with a maximum resolution of 1280×960. The first thing you notice when you enter the camera mode and take your first picture is that the camera is quite slow to use. You have to hold the camera very steady for a couple of seconds to be sure that your picture ain’t just a blurry mess. The LG KG800 Chocolate is quite good in night mode thanks to a small built-in light and low noise level.
Here you can see a couple of examples from the camera, and they simply can’t be compared to even the simplest regular digital cameras but under good conditions the quality is ok. But as I said earlier it takes quite a long time before you can take a picture (around 10 seconds).

The music player in the LG KG800 Chocolate looks great at a quicklook; several different equalizer modes, random play, different skinsetc. But since the phone doesn’t support any form of memory card youare stuck with a total storage of 128Mb, which basically means that you can store approximately 25 songs.
Most of the MP3-files in my music collection are stored using the variable bit rate codec, and that one isn’t supported by the LG KG800Chocolate so I had to convert the songs to constant bit rate before I could play them in the phone.
Sound quality is good but since the total storage is low, you can’t do playlists and it doesn’t support ID3-tags I wouldn’t say that the music part of the phone is anything to cheer. Unless you just want to carry around 20-25 of your favorite songs.
The included browser is very basic and can browse pages that aren’t that complex. You can store bookmarks and choose how to handle cookies and cache. Most of the time I used the Opera Mini - a java based browser which is way better.
Here’s where the LG KG800 Chocolate really shines. It’s quite simplyone of the most beautiful phones ever made and even after 8-9 weeksheavy use the phone looks like brand new - great scratch freematerial. Apple! listen and learn, hehe). The touch panel takes acouple of days before it feels natural and you’ll probably end upcalling some of your friends by mistake before you get the hang of it.But the LG KG800 Chocolate is beautiful and will get you attention ifthat’s what you’re looking for.
If you’re looking for a stylish, beautiful phone and your primarilyinterested in having the phone to call your friends with, rather thanplaying music or taking beautiful photos - this one is definitelyworth looking into. It’s hard to find a phone with better looks.
